Nice work if you can get it:  In 2008, average compensation for federal civilian employees was $119,982.  On average, that's $60,000 more than private sector compensation. 

The table below tells the unfortunate story:


When it comes to politicians claiming there's nothing left to cut in state budget, this picture might just be worth 1000 words.
