'Bill of Attainder?' Baloney!

ACORN is now suing the Federal Government after Congress passed a resolution H.R. 3221 that cut off federal funding to the organization in September. ACORN is claiming that the resolution is a “bill of attainder,” a legislative act that declares a person or group guilty of a crime and then punishes them without a trial.

ACORN seems to believe that removal of federal funding constitutes punishment. It does not, but imagine if it did; any time the federal government wanted to remove funding from an organization, it would have to conduct a trial to find that organization guilty. And the government could never stop funding an organization unless it was found to have committed a crime.

There is a hidden industry in America, and its revenues come from the Federal Government.  It thinks that it is invulnerable, that the rules don’t apply to it, and that the government’s purpose is to provide for its existence. It is wrong.
