What is the "Laugh, think, do" index?

I developed the "Laugh, think, do" index after many years of watching and celebrating the Super Bowl ad frenzy. I developed an index to rate them, because I didn’t think AdAge and New York Times columnists should have all the fun. This is an index that anyone can use. The index uses a subjective and quantitative approach to rate the ads. Ratings don’t equal endorsements, but they are a fun and organized way to join in the ad rating frenzy. Best of all, the index can be used year round to rate other commercials you see!

Our approach at the Illinois Policy Institute is to transform liberty principles into marketable policies that become law. The ultimate sign of success is when free market ideas are turned into law and change lives for the better. What does this look like? Individuals and businesses become more prosperous without the fear of government favoritism or interference, families can choose a high quality education for their kids, and citizens respect their government because it is open and transparent to all.

What does this have to do with Super Bowl commercials? It's pretty simple: To advance good policy and ultimately change laws in Illinois, we need to reach people's hearts and minds. When a good policy idea lives in the heart and mind, there is a good chance that people will take action and do something.

If you would like to learn more about the work we at the Illinois Policy Institute are doing to make Illinois a free enterprise leader for the rest of America (and there is a lot of work left to do here), please feel free to email me at daniel@illinoispolicy.org.
