Republicans in Kansas are moving to counteract the fed's power grab on health care with the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment.
Two key provisions – 1) protects a person’s right to participate or not participate in any health care system, and prohibits the government from imposing fines or penalties on that person’s decision. 2) it protects the right of individuals to purchase—and the right of doctors to provide—lawful medical services without government fine or penalty.
This is not an attempt to “opt-out of” or “nullify” federal health insurance legislation. It is an attempt to protect the liberty of Kansas citizens to control their own medical affairs.
The federal government was never meant to control every aspect of our lives. Who says so? The Constitution in Article 1, Section 8. Federal power is outlined, and it is limited. The current administration is apparently unwilling to see any limits whatsoever in the Constitution, which they may or may not have read. They have not read the health care bill.
They also don't care what the people have said about the bill in poll after poll.
So it is up to the legislatures of the states, who frankly have for far too long been willing to let the federal government take power away from them - and therefore the people - to take that power back.
Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, who may soon be the governor of that state, has signaled his support of the amendment.
Kansas legislators may or may not stand up for its people, but at least some of them are willing to try.
Will Illinois?
Don't bet the mortgage.
