School District Consolidation

Introduced Feb 10, 2017
Status: Introduced

Establishes a commission to evaluate opportunities for cost savings through consolidating school districts. This commission would recommend to the General Assembly a list of districts to be consolidated. School districts consume nearly two-thirds of property tax revenues and present major opportunities for consolidation and sharing of administration. As of the 2014-2015 school year, more than 40 percent of Illinois school districts served only one or two schools.
