Northwest Herald: Algonquin Township highway commissioner's salt order violates state code
Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner Andrew Gasser bought almost 1,200 tons of rock salt without going through a competitive bidding process in an apparent violation of state code, and as a result, he paid about double the price charged to area road districts for salt.
On Oct. 6, Kansas-based salt supplier Compass Minerals delivered 54 truckloads of 1,161 tons of salt: an order of $105,875, according to billing records.
Northwest Herald: Voters to consider McHenry Recreation Center expansion, school referendums
McHenry-area residents will have a chance to vote on two referendums that could allow the city and school district to issue bonds that will allow for major improvements to existing facilities.
The city of McHenry and McHenry High School District 156 each have one referendum on the upcoming ballot. Only residents within McHenry’s corporate limits will be affected by the city’s request, and anyone who pays taxes to District 156 will be affected by its referendum.
