Chief Economist

Illinois Policy Institute seeks a Chief Economist in Chicago, IL. Responsible for building and maintaining economic models to produce policy original research to advance policy and legislative goals.  Required: PhD in Economics; in-depth knowledge of public policy; expertise in building macroeconomics models for analysis; experience using MATLAB, C++, and STATA; ability to present/defend economic models to media, stakeholders, elected officials; ability to build DSGE models to analyze macroeconomic impacts; knowledge/ability re: search theory applications; ability to utilize VAR models to forecast economic growth; ability to utilize regression analysis to estimate the impact of public sector employment and labor market policies on nation-wide economic outcomes.  Much preferred: ability to utilize directed search models.  Duties: serve as a media spokesperson on economic issues; implement Institute’s economic policy strategy w senior leadership team; supervise subordinate policy analysts; assist data intelligence team on modeling/analysis; testify before government on merits of proposed policy solutions/legislation; assist w educating lawmakers/influencers on policy solutions; ensure department maintains full branding, policy and outreach harmony with the Institute; work w external relations department to develop/pitch/report on specific project ideas for targeted fundraising; report at Bd of Directors meetings on communications/ progress/outlook.
