Scary. Very Scary.

Scary. Very Scary.

Things don't look so rosy for job growth in the Prairie State.

by Kristina Rasmussen

I’m a Forbes reader, and one graphic from the November 16 edition caught my eye. And it scared me. And it should scare you.

It shows the forecast percentage change in total employment by county for the 2009-2010 time frame. Blue is growth, red is contraction.

As you can see for yourself, there’s a lot of deep red in Illinois. Things don’t look so rosy for the Prairie State.

So what are our leaders going to do to ensure that Illinois starts adding jobs? Tax hikes are not the answer. Neither is forcing all employers to offer up to seven days paid sick leave. Nor is capping our prosperity by increasing energy costs. Ditto for requiring an expensive expansion of government health care.

Illinois needs better ideas to promote job growth in our state.
