Governor Quinn is proposing a slight reduction in general appropriations in Fiscal Year 2011.

Appropriations 2010: $26.309 billion
Appropriations 2011: $24.777 billion

Difference: $1.532 billion

That’s a 5.8 percent reduction from last year. Additional spending reforms can be made in the face of record deficits.

First to go: registration fees and other conference expenses. Second: union slush funds. Third: movie galas. The list goes on.
