The Springfield Journal-Register ran a story on May 20 that indicated the Illinois Policy Institute would post public employee performance reviews on IllinoisOpenGov.org. That is not the case, and the paper ran this correction:

Correction

The Illinois Policy Institute does not plan to publish state employee evaluations on its website. A previous version of this story misreported IPI’s plans for the information.

Legislation to remove public employee performance reviews from the public sphere sits on Governor Quinn’s desk. Faced with the permanent loss of access to potentially significant information, we took steps to ensure the data would remain available to the public if needed. Our goal is to help keep the sun shining on government operations.

Hopefully, our FOIAs will be unnecessary in the long run. Governor Quinn has been a good advocate for open government, and vetoing HB 5154 would signal his ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability.
