Illinois: Allow Businesses to Create Jobs

What is the best way for government to help people in need of jobs?

by Kate Piercy

The Chicago Tribune made a spot on statement today: “The best way government can help isn’t by extending a meager safety net into perpetuity. It’s by encouraging business to create jobs. Piling on the deficit will have the opposite effect.”

Precisely.

Handing out more and more unemployment checks isn’t ultimately helping people in need of jobs. Illinois could do its part in helping to move its citizens off unemployment and into a job by creating a more friendly business climate and attracting businesses to stay in and come to this state. Businesses create jobs, and Illinois needs to make it less burdensome on businesses to set up shop and survive here.

For some possible ideas on how Illinois could make this happen, check out a recently released paper here on reforming regulations in Illinois in order to create a more vibrant and friendly business in Illinois.
