What He Really Meant Pt. 3

What He Really Meant Pt. 3

Two weeks ago the Governor made his budget address, here is what he really said.

by Mark Cavers

Two weeks ago, Governor Quinn gave his budget address, over a seven day period, leading up to our own press conference for the release of our Budget Solutions 2012, we will be looking at what he said in his address and what he really meant.

Day 3

“We need to keep investing in essential, necessary services while cutting programs that don’t work…This new approach is called ‘budgeting for results’.”

Translation: for the last two years we have wasted your money on programs that don’t work. We’ve continued to throw money at agencies that are not effective, without regard for how important the money we take in taxes is to the working parents who struggle to make it everyday. We passed the largest tax hike in history, taking $1,400 from the average family and a week of their lives, without first realigning our own spending and cutting programs that put frankly should not exist.

On March 8th, the Institute will release an alternative, workable budget: Budget Solutions 2012. It will be balanced, sustainable, and it will cut unnecessary spending and focus government on effectively delivering core services.
