Illinois Residents Pack Up for Other States
Post tax hike farewell letters from Illinois residents.
by Brian Costin
It has been almost 1 week since we launched our “Petition to Repeal the Income Tax Increase” at RepealtheTaxHike.com. Over 4,250 people have already declared their opposition to the recent personal and corporate income tax hikes.
From the comments on the petition it’s quite clear that many residents have had enough and are taking their talents (and tax revenues) elsewhere.
Please share your story when you sign the petition at RepealtheTaxHike.com.
Below are some of the comments from the perhaps soon-to-be ex-Illinois residents.
As a person who was born and raised in rural Southern Illinois, I have always loved living in this area. We are surrounded by family and friends and our lives are centered around our community. Never did I think that I would ever consider moving from this area, but that has been the topic of discussion amongst so many over the past few days. The situation in Illinois is making it harder and harder for rational folks to remain in this state. There needs to be big changes, and repealing the tax hike should be the first.

I’m ashamed to be a citizen of Illinois. This is not a state for business, innovation, private sector jobs, and entrepreneurship. Instead, it’s a state for public sector unions, pensions and healthcare far more generous than anyone deserves. My wife and I are seriously thinking about moving and taking our business with us.

This climate of endless corruption and waste in our state government, combined with the belief among Illinois politicians that residents and businesses are an unlimited stream of tax revenue is causing me to think seriously about moving my family and business to Indiana.

There is no point in living in Illinois anymore. I am moving out of state this summer. Way to go Illinois, you just LOST tax revenue!

The State of Illinois is again let down by its politicians. The damage to Illinois will be one family, one business at a time – which means not noticed until it is too late…look at St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit – all former great cities who took for granted its citizens. We’re sick of the overspending!
We’re leaving and taking our wonderful life and pocketbooks to a state who can control itself!

I’m leaving Illinois forever if the tax hike is not repealed. I’ve already started searching out job offers.

I’m barely making ends meet now at the pay I do receive each check. Please consider other options or I will be forced to re-locate. I do love Chicago but I have to consider my own well being & quality of life. Illinois cost of living is extremely high and I do not want to fall victim to welfare systems and government resources just to get by.

I grew up in Illinois and when I had a choice 1998 to move back, I did with great joy. Now I regret that choice more than ever. My husband and I are looking to move out of IL within the next two years. The only reason we are staying that long is because our son is a junior in high school. Between the tax hikes and the high registration rates being charged for public schools, it has gotten to be too much.

We, the people of the state of Illinois, are tired of wasteful spending by politicians and paying for it. I, along with many Illinoisans are deciding to move out of this state because of the high taxes. There are other states that don’t even have a state tax that are doing better than we are. Figure out a better way and quit spending our tax dollars.
