Using our transparency website, IllinoisOpenGov.org, I found that in 2008 the Governors Office paid $176,200 in dues to the National Governors Association. That amount covered the Illinois Governors dues for fiscal year 2009. According to the associations website, the National Governors Association is a bipartisan organization of the nations governors and promotes visionary state leadership, shares best practices and speaks with a unified voice on national policy. The website also states that individual states pay dues to belong to NGA, and these revenues fund the state-federal operations of the organization.
