Chicago voters indicate desire for state to fund city

Will state taxpayers be asked to pick up the employer share of Chicago teacher pensions?

Chicago voters approved an advisory ballot question yesterday regarding who pays the employer share of teacher pensions. The vote was 76 percent in favor and 23 percent against.

The question:

“”Shall the State of Illinois provide funding for the normal cost of pensions for Chicago teachers in the same manner as the State pays for the normal cost of teacher pensions in every other school district in the state which will free up local funding that can be invested in the classroom?
