Annual Wages for State Machinists

The average annual wages for state machinists is more than double the average for machinists in Illinois.

Using our transparency site, IllinoisOpenGov.org, I found that in 2008, there were a total of five machinists on the state payroll. They were all listed under the Department of Human Services, and their average annual wages equaled $86,325.37. There was very little variance in the wages, and the highest paid machinist received $87,210.07 while the lowest paid machinist received $85,624.83. These numbers only represent wages and do not include employee benefits.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data from May 2008 estimates that machinists in Illinois made an average of $37,860 for the year. This is less than half of the average annual wages for the DHS machinists.
