Bill to Combat Medicaid Fraud Fails in House

A bill to implement stronger income verification requirements for those seeking to enroll in Medicaid failed today in the Illinois House.

Earlier today in the Illinois House of Representatives, Rep. Patti Bellock brought up a bill that would have implemented stronger income verification requirement for those seeking to enroll in Medicaid. Basically, in an effort to stop fraud and abuse you’d have to show two pay stubs instead of one:

…the Department of Human Services or the Department of Healthcare and Family Services shall require an applicant for or recipient of benefits under any of those Acts to supply pay stubs covering at least a 30 day period for the purpose of determining the applicant’s or recipient’s income eligibility for those benefits. Further provides that if an applicant holds a seasonal job or does not have consistent pay stubs, he or she may have an employer fill out a verification form for income.

The bill failed 48 to 64. See who voted “no” here.
