Chicago’s Snow Clearing Performance Rating: Take Two Continued
Side roads saw clearing by Wednesday afternoon...
by Kate Piercy
By Wednesday morning, Chicago’s snow trucks had not gotten to side roads monitored by the Illinois Policy Institute during this week’s snowfall. Unlike the city’s last snow response performance January 8th, trucks were seen clearing side roads by the afternoon, which was a improvement from the heavy snowstorm in January. See pictures here of conditions in January.
Since Chicago’s trucks made it to these side roads by Wednesday afternoon, the city received a “B+” for its response to the side roads and an “A” for arterial roads, which were well taken care of on Tuesday. Both scores are an improvement from the performance grading the city received for its response to January’s snowstorm.
The pictures below show Wednesday’s side road conditions in the morning and later in the day.
