In 2020, many Democratic governors, including Illinois governor JB Pritzker, responded to the COVID-19 pandemic aggressively with lockdowns and mandates. Now, two years later, there is a shift as blue state politicians begin lifting mandates against CDC guidance.
“I think those who made decisions early on in the pandemic were doing so with science in front of them, and they are making decisions now based on the science,” said Aviva Bowen, Democratic strategist with The Strategy Group.

Recreational marijuana has been legal in Illinois since January 1, 2020. One of the major components of the legalization law was the automatic expungement of nearly 500,000 marijuana arrest records. Although, some people are still waiting to have a clean slate today.
WAND: School mask mandate could be lifted in 'a few weeks'
One day after lifting his indoor mask mandate for most people on Feb. 28th, with the exception of K-12 school kids, Governor Pritzker told reporters in Rock Island that mandate will be lifted in the future.
“My expectation is that it will take just a few weeks for us to get to where we need to feel like we can remove masks in schools,” Pritzker said.
