WJOL: COVID-19 Cases On The Rise In Illinois, Governor Weighing Possible Restrictions
Gov. J.B. Pritzker must decide whether or not to implement more restrictions as the number of new COVID-19 cases continues to climb, but on Tuesday the governor said he hoped masks and vaccines prevent the need for additional restrictions or shutdowns.
The Illinois Department of Health reported 3,892 new infections over the last three days and the state has seen nearly 1,300 new cases each week. With the number of cases climbing, some are concerned about what steps public health officials could take next to reduce transmission of the coronavirus.
KBUR: Illinois marijuana licensing on track after lawsuit dropped
A Michigan-based cannabis company has ended its challenge of Illinois’ plan to authorize new marijuana business.
Sozo Illinois Inc.’s decision Tuesday to drop its lawsuit will allow Illinois to proceed with awarding licenses to operate marijuana dispensaries. Illinois on Thursday is to hold the first of three lotteries to award 55 licenses to applicants that scored 85% or better on their applications for recreational cannabis stores.
KFVS 12: Ill. Dept. of Public Health says it will adopt CDC masking recommendations
The Illinois Department of Public Health said on Tuesday, July 27 it would fully adopt updated CDC masking recommendations.
The CDC recommended that everyone, including fully vaccinated people, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with “substantial and high transmission.”
