Northern Public Radio: Report Measures Impact of Eliminating Cash Bail In Illinois
A new report from the Chicago Civic Federation shows most county circuit court clerks in Illinois will lose about 11% of their general fund fee revenue when cash bail is eliminated in 2023. Bond payments can go to a variety of things, including court-ordered fees, fines, restitution, and bond processing fees.
It’s this last category that helps fund circuit clerk operations.

Chicago’s City Council meets Tuesday and is expected to take up a number of key issues, including the Fraternal Order of Police contract and zoning for marijuana dispensaries.

City Council struck down a proposed six-month moratorium on the construction of non-landlord-occupied internal accessory dwelling units Monday.
ADUs are defined as small living units situated within existing residential properties, featuring their own bathroom and kitchen. Used in student areas, they bypass housing laws preventing more than three unrelated persons from living together. The proposal was rejected, in part, due to concerns about the loss of accessible housing options for families, Ald. Bobby Burns (5th) said.
