Author C.J. Maloney spoke at the Institute about his latest book, “BACK TO THE LAND: Arthurdale, FDR’S New Deal, and the Costs of Economic Planning” in mid-February.

In this book, Maloney explores the creation and development of Arthurdale, West Virginia, a state-planned community championed by the Roosevelt administration. According to Maloney, the community was largely considered a social experiment based on government-based, central economic planning.

Unfortunately, that “experiment” was a huge disaster that resulted in a loss of freedom for the citizens of Arthurdale and a huge waste in taxpayer money. Despite these warnings signals, Maloney states that aspects of FDR’s New Deal have been recently reimposed on the United States. Watch a digest of Maloney’s remarks in this video:
