Over Two Million to Weigh Trucks
The State of Illinois spent over two million dollars on paying inspectors to check the weight of trucks in 2008.

In 2008, Illinois Department of State Police employed 47 truck-weight inspectors who made a combined $2,232,530.47 in total wages. These individuals are responsible for conducting weight inspections of trucks to ensure they are within the legal limits, and assessing fines when necessary.
The State should look into privatizing these services as a way to cut costs. According to a study by the Illinois Policy Institute, the Village of Lindenhurst was able to save $100,000 annually by privatizing their building inspection operations.
