Repeal the estate tax

Losing a family member is difficult enough without having to deal with Illinois’ death tax. This can be particularly burdensome for the families of farmers and small businesses.

House Bill 5012, filed Feb. 14, 2018 by state Rep. Ryan Spain, R-Peoria, would repeal the estate tax.

Illinois is one of only 12 states to levy an estate tax. When paired with a federal estate tax, the tax burden becomes particularly burdensome.

Having a state-levied estate tax makes Illinois even less competitive for investment. Illinois already has a wealth-flight problem, and cannot afford to be left even further behind.
