House Speaker Mike Madigan is the longest-serving and most powerful state lawmaker in the nation.
Under his reign, Illinois has been driven to the brink of bankruptcy despite some of the highest taxes in the nation, and has seen more public officials convicted of federal corruption charges than any other state.
Now, the speaker is at the center of the largest federal corruption probe in state history.
It is long past time for Madigan to hand over the speaker’s gavel.
