Support Real Estate Broker Licensing Reform

Unnecessary regulations governing Illinois industries increase the expense and burden on job creators. Illinois is long overdue for a re-examination of its regulatory regime to ensure better outcomes for both consumer interests and economic growth.

House Bill 5210, filed Feb. 15 by state Rep. Tom Demmer, R-Dixon, eliminates the multiple licensing requirement for real estate brokers with more than one branch office.

Currently, a separate licensing application must be submitted to the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation for a real estate broker’s main office, as well as each individual branch office. Every two years, these businesses must submit a new fee and application for every office they operate under the same company.

The change will allow a real estate broker to simply notify the department of each branch in order to obtain a license. There is no benefit to consumer protection by requiring each branch office submit a new application every two years. Therefore, it is an unnecessary burden on private business.
