A year and a half ago, Nancy Pelosi told the public that Congress had to pass ObamaCare so they could find out what was in it. Well, Americans aren’t pleased with the result. New polling data from the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that support for ObamaCare is at all-time low.

  • Only 18 percent of Americans think that they will be better off under ObamaCare, an all-time low.
  • Only 28 percent of Americans think that the country is better off under ObamaCare, an all-time low.
  • Only 34 percent of Americans view ObamaCare favorably, an all-time low.

As the Institute previously reported, Obama’s signature reform will make it harder for millions of people to get the kind of care they desperately need and harder for the poor to find work, trapping them into dependence on the government. Is it any wonder that so many Americans think they’ll be worse off?

If lawmakers wanted to make health care more affordable, they had options. They could have focused on tax reform that treats people who buy individual health insurance policies the same as those who get coverage through their employers, letting people keep their policies even if they lose their jobs or change careers. They could have reduced the number of mandated benefits, giving consumers more flexibility in choosing plans that fit their families’ needs and budgets. They could have reformed Medicaid into a block-grant program and given states more flexibility in administering to the health care needs of their poorest citizens. Instead, they passed a bill that segregates millions of people into inferior care, raises the burden on taxpayers, and drives up the
cost of health care.

It’s time to give the American people what they want. It’s time to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with something that works.
