As I wrap up my tenure as a Milton Friedman intern for the Illinois Policy Institute, I will take with me many great experiences. More importantly, I learned many skills that have without a doubt, prepared me for a career advocating for economic freedom in Illinois and the United States. All that will prove crucial in an increasingly competitive environment.
But perhaps the most valuable idea I am taking with me, is the idea of Thidwick, a big moose with an even bigger heart. Thidwick is a character created by Dr. Seuss more than 60 years ago. The book “Thidwick The Big-Hearted Moose” by Dr. Seuss is a must read for any liberty enthusiast!
Everyone at the Institute loves Thidwick. And why shouldn’t they? He is the happiest, kindest, most charitable character in all of Dr. Seuss’ 46 books.
But it’s not just what he is that explains why everyone loves him. But what he did, and what his story says about individual liberty and economic freedom.
The idea of Thidwick had an extraordinary impact on my performance and experience at the Illinois Policy Institute. I look forward to applying it in my new, exciting role, with The Heartland Institute, an organization with which the Illinois Policy Institute regularly partners.ArticleSource=4782
