Who Do I Contact? Illinois FOIA & OMA Officer Listings

A listing of each local, county and state Freedom of Information Act & Open Meetings Act officer in the State of Illinois.

As part of the Illinois Policy Institute’s many transparency initiatives we often file Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests of state, county, and local government agencies all across the state. To do so we often need to know who the FOIA officer is.

Many of our Liberty Leader transparency partners often ask us how and where to file a Freedom of Information Act request, because they have had trouble identifying who their FOIA officer is. Most times this is either because the local government agency doesn’t post information about who their FOIA officer is (violation of State Law) or because the website is too hard for most people to navigate.

Therefore, we did a FOIA request of the Public Access Counselor in Lisa Madigan’s Office of the Attorney General for the names, addresses, phone number, and email addresses of all of Illinois FOIA officers.

They responded to the FOIA in 3 business days and included information about Illinois Open Meetings Act officers as well.

In total we received records for:
9,185 FOIA Only Officers
6,723 FOIA & OMA Officers
1,520 OMA Only Officers

Here’s the listing which can be downloaded. Allow the document to fully load prior to using the search function.
