On Tuesday, May 24 we will host pollster Scott Rasmussen to discuss the intersection of public opinion and free market principles. The renowned founder of Rasmussen Reports will share what “big ideas” are trending nationally and provide takeaways for Illinois residents, officials, and business leaders.

This week, Rasmussen Reports released the results of a new poll showing heavy dissatisfaction with the public education system in the U.S. when it comes to taxpayers getting their money’s worth.

The survey, “finds that only 11% of voters think the taxpayers are getting a good return on that investment. Seventy-two percent (72%) disagree and say taxpayers are not getting their money’s worth.”

Interestingly this dissatisfaction crosses party lines as, “Most Democrats (63%) agree with the majority of Republicans (78%) and voters not affiliated with either party (77%) that taxpayers are not getting their money’s worth from the current investment.”

Perhaps it is time to looking look at educational choice policies as a solution to our education woes instead of just spending more money. The Illinois Policy Institute has researched charter schools, vouchers, and tuition tax credits and promoted as way to empower parents and save taxpayer dollars, while improving educational outcomes.
