Average Wages for Clinical Lab Technicians on the State Payroll

Clinical lab technicians on the state payroll receive average annual wages almost 37% higher than the average for all clinical lab technicians in Illinois.

Using our transparency website, IllinoisOpenGov.org, I found that during calendar year 2008, the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois Department of Public Health employed a total of 71 clinical laboratory technicians. These employees had overall annual average wages of $54,572—almost 37% higher than the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 2008 estimate of $39,880 for average annual wages in Illinois of “Medical and Clinical Laboratory Technicians.” The table below breaks down the total wages, average wages, and number of technicians in the two departments.
