As they grapple with a nationwide decline in demand for the coronavirus vaccine, cities and states are coming up with creative ways to persuade residents to roll up their sleeves for the jab.
Illinois became the latest state to join the trend when it announced Thursday it will be doling out 50,000 free theme park tickets to anyone who has been vaccinated through a partnership with Six Flags Great America (the tickets are valued at a combined cost of $4 million).
State Journal-Register: Lawmakers propose reducing Illinois trailer fee after increasing it two years ago
Two years after state lawmakers increased fees on vehicle trailers by $100, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle want to reduce the trailer fee to something more reasonable after residents complained about the massive increase.
When lawmakers passed the 2019 bipartisan capital bill to boost infrastructure projects around the state, it came with various increases on transportation-related fees, including a doubled gas tax and increasing vehicle registration fees. The fee hikes included raising the vehicle trailer registration fee from $18 to $118.
ABC 7: IL follows CDC mask guidance allowing vaccinated people to take it off indoors most of the time
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people on Thursday, allowing them to stop wearing masks outdoors in crowds and in most indoor settings.
The guidance still calls for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters but it will help clear the way for reopening workplaces, schools, and other venues – even removing the need for social distancing for those who are fully vaccinated.
