As the weather gets colder, Chicago has begun moving some migrant arrivals out of police stations with the help of community groups and churches.
The state has seen more than 24,000 border crossers arrive over the past 15 months, which has led to the city and state spending more taxpayer dollars for shelters.

The federal judge presiding over ex-Ald. Edward M. Burke’s corruption trial is considering whether to grant a mistrial after prosecutors elicited a comment from a witness Wednesday about the “Chicago way of doing business” being “very corrupt.”
Mistrial motions are not uncommon — particularly in a high-stakes trial such as Burke’s. Most are denied. But U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall seems to be giving serious consideration to Wednesday’s request from Burke’s attorneys.
Chicago Tribune: Groupon is downsizing once-massive Chicago headquarters to subleased floor of Leo Burnett building
Struggling online marketplace Groupon, whose massive River North headquarters were once the nexus of the Chicago tech ecosystem, is moving to the Loop and downsizing to a 25,000-square-foot space in the Leo Burnett building.
In January, Groupon will make the 25th floor of 35 West Wacker Drive its new Chicago home on a 22-month sublease from Publicis, the French parent company of ad agency Leo Burnett, which occupies much of the 50-story office tower.
Daily Herald: DuPage County Board approves $625 million budget
DuPage County Board members on Tuesday approved a $625 million spending plan for the 2024 fiscal year that keeps the tax levy flat while increasing funding to address food insecurity, add affordable housing and continue ongoing building projects.
“This is a fiscally responsible spending plan that makes critical infrastructure investments which will take the pressure off upcoming budgets,” DuPage County Board Chairwoman Deborah Conroy said. “In the coming year, we will provide vital assistance to our residents who need it most while adding to our reserves and prepaying on county financial obligations.”
WCIA: Meta launches new data center in Illinois
The parent company of Facebook and Instagram just opened their newest data center in the state of Illinois.
Meta officials joined Governor J.B. Pritzker and other state leaders to celebrate the start of the data center in DeKalb. Officials say the facility will bring 200 jobs and represents a nearly $1 billion investment to Illinois’ economy.
