In the past two days, House Speaker Mike Madigan has sent a pair of letters to Democratic House members as he combats questions of sexual harassment against one of his top aides and how he has handled those allegations.
In a rare Saturday letter, Madigan announced a group of three women — including Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, will lead a statewide discussion about the role of women in the Democratic Party and how to “change the culture of politics.”

Stark County voters will decide in a March 20 referendum whether to increase the county sales tax to provide more funds for the Sheriff’s Office and other public safety purposes.
The County Board voted unanimously in December to seek approval for raising the public safety sales tax from .5 cent to 1.25 cent per dollar under the county’s form of the Special County Retailers’ Occupation Tax. That would add 75 cents to the current $6.75 tax on a $100 purchase of eligible items.
