At least two state representatives from Rockford are opposed to House Speaker Mike Madigan’s bid to retain the leadership post he’s held in Springfield for more than three decades.
Madigan has been under mounting pressure from some lawmakers and Gov. JB Pritzker to resign from the speaker role since Commonwealth Edison admitted to federal prosecutors earlier this year that it engaged in a yearslong bribery scheme aimed at currying favor with the speaker.

The city’s winter overnight parking ban begins Tuesday, Dec. 1, prohibiting parking on 107 miles of main streets from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. — regardless of snow — until April 1, 2021. Another 500 miles of streets prohibit parking after two inches of snow or more falls, no matter the time of day or the date.

City planners said Friday they will solicit development ideas for four commercial parcels in neighborhoods targeted for intensive public improvements under Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Invest South/West program.
The sites consist mostly of city-owned property in Bronzeville, New City, North Lawndale and South Chicago. The request for proposals, or RFPs, will include general development goals arrived at in discussions with community residents.
