The two sides in the Chicago Public Schools teacher strike traded jabs after a weekend of negotiations, with the Chicago Teachers Union planning a rally at City Hall Monday morning.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she’s offered the union a deal that meets its demands and doesn’t understand why the union “simply cannot take yes for an answer.” In response, CTU President Jesse Sharkey said late Sunday that the mayor needs to stop being “petty” and “brittle.”

The union for about 7,500 Chicago Public Schools support staff, which went on strike with the teachers, was reviewing the final terms of an agreement Sunday night, ahead of another day of canceled classes and contract negotiations between the city and striking teachers.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot and CPS CEO Janice Jackson cheered the deal at a Sunday night news conference at City Hall. “These are the tough jobs that ensure that our schools run effectively,” Jackson said, adding that she was glad a fair and strong deal was reached.

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s six-year road plan contains a bonanza of projects for Lake County, including a whopping $129 million to widen Route 60/83 and take it over a troublesome railroad crossing in the Mundelein area.
Other work includes: widening Route 22 from Quentin Road to near Route 83 in Long Grove/Kildeer; realigning intersections on Route 83 from Route 120 to Route 137 and at Atkinson Road in Grayslake; widening Route 131 (Green Bay Road) from Wadsworth Road to Sunset Avenue in Beach Park; and modernizing the interchange of Route 41 (Skokie Highway) at Route 176 in Lake Bluff.
