Halloween trick-or-treat hours across Illinois vary, but generally fall during the dinner hour.

Here’s a sampling of trick-or-treat hours for Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026:
Chicago and suburbs:
- City of Chicago: The Chicago Police Department recommends trick-or-treating only during daylight hours and suggests participants wear light-colored clothing. The city also recommends that parents plan Halloween parties, saying they “can be lots of fun and SAFER too.”
- Arlington Heights: Recommends 3 to 7 p.m.
- Glenview: 3 to 7 p.m.
- Vernon Hills: Suggested hours are 3 to 7 p.m.
- Downers Grove: No set hours. Police recommend trick-or-treating during daylight.
- Bolingbrook: 3 to 8 p.m.
