Last week a Chief Executive Magazine survey of 556 CEOs ranked Illinois as the third worst place to do business in the United States. Put another way, over 500 of the leaders who are making company’s decisions on where to invest, hire more employees, and expand or contract operations would opt to go almost anywhere in the country besides Illinois. Illinois has plummeted 40 spots from eighth overall to 48th during the past five years, far and away the worst drop of any states. Compared to last year, our neighbors in Indiana and Wisconsin improved by 10 and 17 spots respectively while we saw our ranking sink another three spots.
Continuing the failed policies of the past five years will only serve to preserve a state that job creators view with disdain from their new production plants in Milwaukee and Indianapolis. This is yet another reminder that we have the opportunity, today, to empower the entrepreneurs
