Institute in Belleville News Democrat: Officials Tout High-Speed Rail Construction
The Institute's Collin Hitt was quoted in Belleville News Democrat about high-speed rail.
The Illinois Policy Institute’s Collin Hitt was quoted in a Belleville News Democrat story about high-speed rail expansion in Illinois:
Critics say the expense for the rail line is too great for a minimal increase in speed, and that it won’t serve enough customers to make financial sense. They also point to long-term maintenance costs. Florida, Wisconsin and Ohio have turned down federal grants for high-speed rail.
Collin Hitt, director of policy at the Illinois Policy Institute, said spending on high-speed rail could hurt the state’s economy.
“This is a risky investment, at best,” Hitt said. “Given our fiscal situation, we should be avoiding risky projects.”
