The Illinois State Board of Education has announced that it will release school report cards today, showing whether schools are doing better or worse at meeting state and federal academic standards. The decision to release information on a Friday afternoon heading into a weekend when everyone is going to be focused on elections is not something that one would expect if the news was good. And this there’s this tipbit from the Belleville News Democrat who spoke with state superintendent Chris Koch last week:
“According to the state report card, 1,999 schools – 51 percent – didn’t meet that standard. That’s a 40 percent increase from 2009.High schools in particular struggled, with more than 90 percent failing to meet math and science test standards.”
