The Illinois Policy Institute is seeking a Communications Intern. The intern will work closely with the communications team to promote original research and perspectives from the state’s strongest taxpayer advocate, fostering and maintaining a positive brand image with media stakeholders. The Communications Intern will play a critical role in amplifying the Institute’s message and engaging with various media outlets.
For 8-12 weeks, you’ll work in our Chicago office with our communications experts as a member of our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write press releases on new policy research.
- Pitch and correspond with members of the media.
- Update or create organizational talking points.
- Prepare experts for interviews.
- Research potential opportunities with outlets and podcasts.
- Write media recap reports.
- Draft scripts for video content.
- Conduct and write interviews with local residents.
- Assist with media metrics and reports.
- Collaborate with the team in problem-solving and strategic discussions.
Qualifications:
- An interest in news media or a passion for following the media cycle.
- Familiarity with the concept and benefits of free market policies.
- Interest and/or familiarity with Illinois and Chicago.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Currently holding or working toward a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, media studies, or a similar field.
This position will begin this summer in June 2025.
