Quinn 2011 Budget: 33 Percent Income Tax Hike
Governor Quinn is calling for a 33 percent income tax increase.
Regular visitors to IllinoisPolicy.org are well acquainted with Governor Quinn’s fiscal year 2010 proposal to increase the Illinois state income tax by 50 percent.
On paper, his fiscal year 2011 budget is devoid of any such request.
Of course, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want an income tax increase. Indeed, his budget speech said as much. He’s calling for a 33 percent income tax increase (he’s calling it an income tax surcharge).
Political realities point in the other direction. Residents are unlikely to accept another tax increase, especially when fundamental spending reforms have not been made.
