In the wake of a recent study showing strong results for a Washington D.C. voucher program, the Trib is again urging Illinois lawmakers to support a school voucher bill that would provide students in Chicago’s worst and most overcrowded elementary schools with the choice of attending a city private school instead:

Rep. Karen Yarbrough, D-Maywood, told us she’ll reintroduce the bill in the fall. That’s good news…
A voucher program would offer thousands of Chicago students a choice, without hurting the public schools. Study after study shows that such programs actually improve student achievement in public schools. CPS officials know this. They supported the voucher bill in the last legislative session because it was win-win-win: good for students, good for taxpayers and good for public education.
